What is an ER1? An ER1 is a robot built by a kit or came preassembled. It was designed and created by a company called Evolution Robotics in the early 2000s. Evolution Robotics was purchased by the iRobot company and ceased to exist as an entity. The ER1 kits came with extruded aluminum bars and plastic connectors. The kit also included a webcam, a battery, and two motorized wheels. When constructed as suggested in the instructions, the robot would hold a laptop computer which served as its brain and also provided functionality for the robot through features included in the Windows XP operating system such as voice recognition, text-to-speech, and the ability to program it with either a tabbed If-Then sequence or Windows-based programming tools. It also had the option of remote control through wi-fi remotely and with sockets. |
